They skipped ads and won anyway

For years, I taught children in Sunday school. Right before Passover, we’d set up a model Seder. Long tables. Small plastic cups of grape juice. Matzah stacked in uneven piles. And a Maxwell House Haggadah at every seat.

The kids never paused at the name.

Neither did I.

By then, the Maxwell House Haggadah no longer felt placed there.

It felt like it belonged.

The White House Seder. Same Haggadah.

Back in the 1920s, Jews were unsure whether coffee was kosher for Passover.

Once that question was settled, Maxwell House was ready.

Not with another ad.

With a Haggadah.

They printed millions and placed them where families would find them before Passover- in supermarkets, Jewish neighborhoods, on the way into the holiday.

Most campaigns get a season.

This one showed up every year.

50 million copies later,

it’s still there.

The smartest brands don’t fight for attention.

They earn a place at the table.
