If my kids had their way, we’d have a dog, turtles, frogs and a bearded dragon living in our house.
I had a pocket of time this week, so I took my 6-year-old to PetCo.
He disappeared toward the turtles.
I wandered into the cat food aisle.
Ingredient lists stopped me in my tracks.
Duck. Lamb. Wild boar. Monkfish.
Probiotics. Flaxseed. Coconut oil.
One package even bragged,
“With nutrients like those in mother’s milk.”
These cats eat better than I do.
Better digestion.
Brain development.
Even hairball management.
Then it hit me.
None of those promises were written for the cat.
The buyer isn’t always the one using your product.
Every word on the package was written for the person standing in the aisle.
Because if cats were doing the shopping, the package would probably say:
Tastes like mouse.
