Why I stopped saying ‘thank you’

My grandfather passed away when I was in eighth grade, but his impact on me and how I run my business today, is enormous. One phrase he often said still echoes in my mind: “Saying thank you for everything is saying thank you for nothing.”

A lifelong leader and teacher, my grandfather, Rabbi Avrohom Chaim Lapin, zt’l dedicated nearly 40 years serving communities in South Africa. During his final 18 years, he established Congregation Am Echad in San Jose, California. Though he passed away over 30 years ago, the values and teachings he shared continue to live on through the lives he touched.

Have you noticed how easily people say, “Thanks for everything.” It sounds polite – but vague, almost automatic. Now compare that to: “Glad I ran that by you, your advice changed how I handled the whole situation.”

One slips out without thought. The other lands, making a lasting impression.

That lesson didn’t just change how I say thank you. It shapes how I think, speak, and lead. Precision and intention aren’t just for gratitude – they’re the backbone of every smart message and brand decision.

🎯

At Better Co., that’s our core belief. “Less is more” isn’t a tagline. It cuts through noise, builds trust fast, and gives your brand the clarity it needs to stand out and stick.

This sign hangs behind my desk and is the foundation of every brand we build.

Here’s how “Less is More” shows up in our work:

• We remove the noise so your brand’s real story takes center stage.

• Every design element serves a purpose. No filler, no fluff.

• We distill your message until it cuts through – clear, bold, unforgettable.

Want to strengthen your facility’s brand – by saying less?

1) Cut the fluff. Instead of ‘We care for your loved ones,’ say: ’24/7 skilled care. 100% focused on dignity.’ 2) Simplify your brochure.Drop the clutter. Ditch overcrowded photos and long-winded copy. Focus on what families care about most: safety, outcomes, and experience. 3) Sharpen your testimonials. ‘My father made a lot of progress’ is nice. ‘They got him walking again in 3 weeks’ is unforgettable.

When was the last time your message actually landed? Next time you tell your story – whether it’s to a customer, a colleague, or a room full of decision-makers, don’t say everything.

Say the one thing that matters.

Say it clearly. Say it with intention. Say it like it counts.

That’s how you get heard.

That’s how your brand rises above.

That’s what Better Co. delivers – every. single. day.

Because in a noisy world: clarity wins.
